Community Work
Beersheba International Faith Church play a key role in strengthening civil society. Church related community development work manifests the centrality of values such as respect for people, the importance of neighbourliness, the process of mediating and peace-making, developing skills in empowering the poor and oppressed and working for social justice. Community development work designs its activity around the principle of focussing on the potentialities of people rather than their deficiencies.
Community development is a way of strengthening civil society by prioritising the actions of communities, and their perspectives, in the development of social, economic and environmental policy. Church related community development engages with its partners to seek the empowerment of local communities. Communities are taken to mean both geographical communities, communities of interest or identity and communities organising around specific themes or policy initiatives health or homelessness.
Church related community development, at best, does more than challenge those who are living more comfortably than others. It provides everyone with the opportunity to engage in the civil renewal process and thus have the opportunity to reflect on their stewardship of God's gifts and goodness.
